PARISH CENTER NEWS: (cont’d from last week…)
“Being able to volunteer daily provided me with not only insight into the causes of homelessness but a glimpses of hope that every person has the capacity to succeed. On a personal level, working with volunteers who are so adamantly dedicated to giving everything to assist the needy has truly been an experience of a life time. Prior to my work here, I had underestimated the severity of the social problem of homelessness.
It is true that organizations such as this can only introduce a new way of living, I have high respect for any agency that uses volunteers and donations to provide affordable, decent means of living for those families nearing homelessness, many are in dire conditions because of factors that are out of their control, but with the willingness to help themselves and aid from others they can better their lives, and I value being able to be part of this process. Through working with the homeless I am reminded of Margaret Meade’s quote: “Never doubt that a small group of committed citizens can change the world, In fact, is the only thing that ever has.” — from Jonathan Molayen (Loyola High School)
– Next Saturday, February 19th, Social Services will have a Tax Preparation Clinic-from 10am to 2pm, and also we are now assisting with the Gas and Edison Electric bills, please call our office at (323) 871-8042 to make an appointment and get more information.
