Passion (Palm) Sunday

By Norma Castilho on 19-03-2005 | Parish | Comments Off

For the Week of March 20 - 26, 2005

THIS IS PALM SUNDAY, and we have come to the last lap of our Lenten journey with Jesus…now we are at the crossroads of Calvary…in our readings today we find Jesus alone…everyone has left him. Will we do the same thing? Will this Holy Week be just another “business-as-usual” week? - Or will we take up our palm branches and lift up our crosses and continue to follow Jesus until we hear him say to us what he said to the criminal on the cross: “Today you will be with me in paradise.”

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT TO VOLUNTEERS: Our church will be closed on Holy Saturday - March 26 during the morning and early afternoon hours. We will open before our Vigil Service at 8:00 pm. Anyone wanting to help to clean the church for our Easter Services please come on March 26 from 9 am until 12 noon.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS: Monday evenings at 7:00pm 3/21.

FAST AND ABSTINENCE: All Fridays of Lent and Good Friday are days of abstinence from meat. Fasting days are Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.

PARISH CENTER NEWS: (continued from last week)
When Alex first came to the Social Services Center, he met a lot of nice people, however, there were also demanding people who have a bad attitude and don’t appreciate his efforts in helping them this makes it the hardest part of his work. Despite of this, he finds that his job gives him the satisfaction in helping others. He says that the support of the community and the members of the congregation made it happen. Alex’s main goal is to help establish a small library and literacy program. He also has a personal ambition to meet that special girl and raise a family. In addition to his other goals and responsibilities he attends Los Angeles Community College. He wants to remind everyone in our community that every human being deserves dignity and respect.A lesson that he was taught from his childhood and won’t forget was to respect others the way you would like them to respect you.
