CARDINAAL MCINTYRE FUND FOR CHARITY: 2nd Collection - May 1, 2005
Today is our 2nd. Collection on behalf of Cardinal McIntyre Fund for Charity. Your contributions to the Cardinal McIntyre Fund for Charity makes you a sharer in works of mercy in our local church. You are helping to serve “the neediest of those in need” - children, families and individuals throughout the Archdiocese of Los Angeles for whom no other resources exist. Your gifts help provide food, lodging, emergency medical care, financial and burial assistance. Donation envelopes are found behind the pews. Please be generous!

EXPOSITION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT: this coming Friday, May 6, is the First Friday of the month, therefore, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed from 8:30am to 9:30am. We will close the exposition with a Benediction.

PARISH CENTER NEWS:
– the Volunteers of America is offering an employment training for individuals 55 or older if you want more information call Social Services.
– Social Service is been assisting with Utility bills from the Gas Company and Edison electric CO. We are very grateful to United Way who sponsored such a program this year we have pledge more than $13,000.00 worth of utility bills, this program is a winter program and every year from February to April We have this services available for every one who needs the assistance.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION RAFFLE: The Religious Education Dept is having a “raffle” in order to raise funds for its program. The raffle will take place on Saturday, May 7th in the school auditorium. There are three prizes, R. E. reps are outside the church offering these raffle tickets. Thank you for your generosity!!!

HISC (Hollywood Interfaith Sponsoring Committee) is the coalition of 11 Religious Organizations in the area of Hollywood. We are affiliated with PICO an organization that works with the faith and community leaders to address issues such as: health, public education, affordable housing and public safety. These are some of the issues we have been working on and their results:
- We urged Councilmember Eric Garcetti and Mayor James Hahn to construct 500 units of affordable housing in Hollywood. To-date this objective has been met and and exceeded in about 30%.
- An alley that was used to dump trash nearby Hollywood & Gower has been cleaned and now the neighborhood children are playing in a clean and safe environment.
- We are working in increasing voter participation.
- 30 members of Blessed Sacrament HISC went to Sacramento to participate along with 4200 members from all over California in a Town Hall meeting asking the Senate to make health insurance available to every kid in California. Officials have promised to work together to pass a couple of Bills that are already been presented to the Senate.
- We have participated in the negotiations of a contract for a new project located in Hollywood and Vine. We have requested and are confident this project will bring new and better pay jobs to the Hollywood area.
- A Homeless Task Force has been created and with the cooperation of other Faith Communities, political leaders and Social Services agencies working together, we are asking that a ONE STOP HOMELESS CENTER is built. This is a work of faith and a hope for a better Hollywood. If you want more information call Sarah Phelps or Marlon Morales (323)468-0978.

CARNIVAL NEWS: Welcome to the Carnival section of Blessed Sacrament Parish’s bulletin. Hope you were able to join us last year, lots of fun and comraderie. We need your help to make the 2005 Blessed Sacrament Carnival a success!
The Carnival is our school and parish’s largest single fundraising event. The 2005 Carnival will be held October 21, 22, 23rd. There are many ways that you can participate and we welcome all suggestions for possible contributions.
– Volunteer your time: To solicit for donations, planning and installing decorations, setting up before the weekend event, preparing food, running the game & raffle booths etc.
– Contribute items: We encourage you to request donations from local businesses that you frequent, and to ask your friends and families if they can help us
– Come to the party and enjoy: We will send you more information thru the bulletin as the weekend draws closer but don’t forget that your raffle ticket purchases is one very important way that you can help defray the costs of planning the carnival and make sure that as much money as possible goes directly to help the school and parish. We encourage you to invite your colleague’s friends, and families to join us for the weekend.
We are excited about the chance to top our fundraising records from previous years and we are looking forward to a terrific weekend with food, games, entertainment and friends. We would be thrilled for you to help us make the 2005 Carnival, Concert & International Cuisine our best yet. DID YOU KNOW? Parents and guardians have the primary responsibility for protecting their children from all potential harm. When choosing a nursery, daycare center or school, parents should inspect the building and grounds to make sure there are no areas where children play or work that are “off limits” to parents. Such facilities should have a policy that welcomes parents to visit the center or school without prior appointment.

Udstedes estan ayudando a servir a los mas necesitados: ninos, familias, e individuos a lo largo de la Arquidiocesis de Los Angeles. Su ayuda provee asistencia con comida, alojamiento, atencion medica de emergencia, crisis financieras y asistencia con gastos de funeral. Los sobres correspondientes para su contribucion se encuentran detras de las bancas. Por favor sean generosos!

NOTICIAS DEL CENTRO PARROQUIAL:
– La Organizacion Voluntarios de America esta ofreciendo entrenamiento de trabajo para personas de 55 anos o mayores. Si desea mas informacion llame a la oficina de Servicios Sociales. — Servicios Sociales ha estado asistiendo con las facturas de La Companias de Gas y Edison Electric Company. Agradecemos a la Compania United Way por patrocinar programas como este. Este ano nosotros hemos remitido mas de $13,000.00 en facturas a estas dos Companias. Este programa se lleva a cabo todos los anos durante el invierno en los meses de Febrero a Abril y nuestra participacion en estre programa es para asistir a las personas que lo necesiten.

NOTICIAS DEL DEPTO. DE EDUCACION RELIGIOSA: El Depto de Educacion Religiosa esta promoviendo una “rifa” para recaudar fondos para su programa de catequesis. La rifa se llevara a cabo el Sabado 7 de Mayo en el auditorio de la escuela. Hay tres premios: 1ero premio: una computadora nueva; 2do Premio: 2 pases para Estudios Universal; 3er Premio: Un certificado de $40 para el Rest. Teresita. Por favor sean generosos y ayuden al Programa de Educacion Religiosa. Representantes del CCD estaran hoy despues de las Misas ofreciendo estas rifas. Tambien puede adquirir boletos en la oficina de Educacion Religiosa. Gracias!!

SOBRES ESPECIALES PARA SU DONACION DEL DIA DE LAS MADRES: los encontraran detras de las bancas para en ellos rendir tributo a sus Madres (vivas y/o fallecidas). El Domingo 8 de Mayo estos sobres se colocaran en el altar para una bendicion especial.

HISC (COMITE INTER-RELIGIOSO DE HOLLYWOOD: Es la coalicion de 11 Iglesias en el area de Hollywood, estamos afiliados a la Organizacion de PICO, esta organizacion trabaja con organizaciones de fe y lideres comunitarios para solucionar problemas de salud, viviendas economicas, educacion y seguridad publica. Estan son algunos de los puntos en los que hemos estado trabajando y sus resultados:
– Construccion de 500 viviendas economicas en el espacio de 3 anos. Esa promesa ha sido cumplida y exedida en aproximadamente 30%.
– Transformacion de un callejon donde se acumulaba basura cerca de un parque en Hollywood Blvd. & Gower en una area limpia y segura par que los ninos de la vecindad juegen.
– 30 miembros de HISC volaron a Sacramento el 13 de Abril para unirse a otras 4200 personas de toda California para pedirle al Senado que apruebe las propuestas de salud (seguro medico para todos los ninos de California). Nos escucharon y han prometido dar su voto de apoyo.
– Hemos trabajado para incrementar la participacion de votantes en nuestra comunidad.
– Hemos participado en la negociacion de un contrato de un nuevo proyecto en el area de Hollywood and Vine que confiamos traera trabajos con buenos salarios al area de Hollywood.
– Comunidades de Fe, Agencias de Servicios Sociales y Lideres Politicos estan trabajando en la solucion para el problema de la indigencia en Hollywood. El mes pasado HISC organizo una reunion comunitaria pidiendo apoyo a las entidades que pueden ayudar a hacer este poryecto una realidad.

CARNAVAL: Bienvenidos a la seccion del Carnaval en nuestro boletin. Espero que Uds nos hayan acompanado el ano pasado, cuando nos divertimos muchisimo en un ambiente de camaridad. Necesitamos otra vez de su ayuda para hacer del Carnaval de este ano todo un exito.
El Carnaval es el evento mas grande de nuestra parroquia en el cual recaudamos fondos para la parroquia y nuestra escuela y este ano se realizara el 21, 22 y 23 de Octubre.
Hay muchas maneras en las que ustedes pueden ayudar y participar. Haganme saber sus ideas, sugerencias para obtener mas contribuciones.
– Voluntarios: Donando su tiempo para solicitar donaciones, haciendo y/o colocando las decoraciones, cocinando, arreglando antes y despues del Carnaval, trabajando en alguno de los kioskos de juegos y/o comida.
– Donaciones: Pidiendo donaciones de los negocios que ustedes frequentan, de sus familiares y amistades.
– Vengan a la fiesta para divertirse: Les daremos mas informacion cuando se vaya acercando la fecha. Pero no se olviden que el exito del Carnaval reside en la venta de los boletos de las rifas. Inviten a sus familiares y amigos para que vengan durante este fin de semana.

SABE USTED? Los padres y los guardianes tienen la responsabilidad primordial de proteger a sus ninos contra todo dano potencial. Al elegir una guarderia infantial, centro de guarderia o escuela, los padres deben examinar el edificio y la propiedad para cerciorarse de no haya ningun área donde los ninos jueguen o trabajen que este “fuera de los limites” de los padres. Tales instituciones deben tener una poliza que de la bienvenida a los padres para visitar el centro o la escuela sin cita previa.
