L. A. VOICE: will hold a meeting next Thursday, October 27 at 7:00pm in the school auditorium. All parishioners are invited to attend since there will be important issues being discussed!!!

FEAST OF ST. JUDE: Friday, October 28th, is the Feast of St. Jude. Since many of our parishioners have a devotion to St. Jude, the Friday Spanish evening 7:30pm Mass will be celebrated at the Main Altar on that evening. Anyone wishing to assist with the Mass may contact Mercedes Cortes or Fr. Wayne.

CHOIR CONCERT: Join us for the 4th Annual A Cappella Choir Cabaret Concert on Fri, Oct. 28 & Sat, Oct 29 at 8pm in the school auditorium. This year’s concert, entitled “On the Radio” will feature rock, pop, and R&B music in a call-in radio show format hosted by comedian and parishioner Thai Rivera. A back-up band will accompany all the solo and group acts, and free refreshments will be served. Cost for the concert is $8, with all proceeds going towards the Blessed Sacrament Organ Fund. See choir members for tickets, or call the Music Department for reservations. Come and see a concert preview at the Carnival on Sat, Oct. 22 from 9:00-9:30pm. Don’t miss it!

If you would like one, and I highly recommend them for your preparation at home before your scheduled Mass, please mail me a check or leave on in my in name in the rectory office. HEALTH MINISTRY NEWS: We will not be able to have our own Flu Shot event this year. As a community service following is some important information: If you are 60 years or older, or have a chronic illness, such as asthma, heart disease, diabetes, or kidney disorder, you are eligible to receive Los Angeles County influenza vaccine at: Hollywood Senior Center, 1360 N. St. Andrews Place, Los Angeles, CA 90028. Thursday, October 27, 9am-12 noon. If you have an allergy to eggs, or a serious illness, please see your doctor.

SOCIAL SERVICES OFFICE NEWS: (continued from last week)
The region is so huge and most damage from earthquakes and fires typically is relatively localized, most of the region’s planning is based on the assumption that damage will be confined to one or two areas, several officials said. Detailed plans to deal with a massive emergency, one that displaces more than 300.000 people have not been developed said Stephen Sellers, head of Southern California operations for the State Office of Emergency Services.
Sellers and others say a tragedy on that scale goes beyond many worst-case scenarios and would include a chemical or nuclear attack, or a catastrophic earthquake on one of the faults that run directly under Los Angeles, such as Newport-Inglewood or Puente Hills. Sellers also said the importance of individual preparedness is a key lesson learned from Katrina, and he urged state and local governments to educate residents about the importance of having a survival kit. ALL SOULS DAY, TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 2, is a day when we especially remember our departed family and friends. As it is our custom, our parish will offer a first intention Mass each day during the month of November at 12:05 for all whose names are in the high altar. Donation envelopes are placed in the pews for your “special contributions.”

TURN YOUR CLOCKS BACK ONE HOUR NEXT SATURDAY NIGHT (OCTOBER 29) - So you will be on time for Mass and a lot of other things. Daylight Savings time is over … it’s time to “Fall Back.”

COMMUNITY NEWS
– Halloween in Hollywood: Silly string is prohibited in Hollywood on Halloween, according to a city law passed last year. People are encouraged to have fun on Halloween, but leave the silly string at home. It is illegal to possess, use, sell or distribute silly string from 12:00 am Oct 31 through noon on Nov 1. Violations may be subject to a $1,000 fine.

CONCIERTO DEL CORO: Los esperamos en nuestro 4to. Concierto del Coro A Capella el Viernes 28 de Octubre, Sabado 29 de Octubre a las 8pm en el auditorio de la escuela. Este ano el concierto se titulara: “En la Radio” y presentaremos musica de rock, pop, R&B al estilo de un show radial que estara a cargo del comediante y feligres Thai Rivera. Una banda acompanara todos los actos y se serviran refrescos. La entrada cuesta $8, y todas los fondos son para el fondo del Organo de nuestra Iglesia. Para comprar los boletos, favor hablar con miembros del coro o pueden llamar al Depto. De Música para hacer reservas. Tendremos un sinopse del concierto durante el Carnaval el Sabado 22 de 9 a 9:30pm. No se lo pierdan!

FIESTA DE SAN JUDAS: El Viernes 28 de Octubre es la Fiesta Patronal de San Judas Tadeo. Muchos de nuestros feligreses son devotos de este Santo, por lo tanto celebraremos la Misa de las 7:30pm del Viernes en el Altar Mayor esa noche. Cualquier persona que desee ayudar en esta celebracion, por favor contactar a Mercedes Cortes o al Padre Wayne.

SERVICIOS SOCIALES: (continuacion)
La region es tan grande y la mayoria de los terremotos e incendios son relativamente locales, el planeamineto en esta area esta basado en la pretencion que los danos estaran localizados en una o dos areas segun muchos de los expertos. Sellers y otros expertos dijeron tambien que una tragedia de esa magnitud esta completamente fuera de cualquier caso imaginable y podria incluir tambien ataques nucleares o quimicos asi como un catatrofico terremoto en una de las fallas que corren por debajo de la ciudad de los Angeles, como la de Newport-Inglewood o la de Puente Hill. Sellers tambien dijo que es muy importante la preparacion individual- esta es otra de las lecciones que nos dejo Katrina, y se le ha pedido al Gobierno Local y Estatal educar a la poblacion acerca de la importancia de tener un botiquin de sobrevivencia por lo menos para 3 dias, esto ayudara a las personas enormemente. La proxima semana publicaremos la lista de articulos sugeridos para el botiquin de sobrevivencia.

MINISTERIO DE LA SALUD: Este ano no tendremos las vacunas de la influenza aqui en la parroquia.Si usted tiene 60 anos o mas, o tiene una enfermedad cronica, como asma, enfermedades del corazon, diabetes, o problemas con los rinones, usted es elegible para recibir la vacuna contra la influenza en: Hollywood Senior Center, 1360 N. St. Andrews Place, Los Angeles, CA 90028. Jueves, 27 de Octubre / 9am-12 pm. Si usted es alergico al huevo, o tiene una enfermedad seria, consulte a su medico.

L.A. VOZ: Tendra una reunion el Jueves 27 de Octubre a las 7:00pm en el auditorio de la escuela. Todos los feligreses estan invitados, pues se trataran temas de mucha importancia para la comunidad. No falten!!!

MINISTERIO DE GAY & LESBIANAS: Tendra un “potluck” el Domingo 30 de Octubre a las 12 del mediodia en el patio de la rectoria. Todos estan invitados!

DIA DE TODOS LOS DIFUNTOS, MARTES 2 NOVIEMBRE: Como todos los anos ofreceremos nuestras intenciones durante las Misas de las 12:05 durante todo el mes de Noviembre en favor de todos los nombres de los difuntos que se an anotado en el Libro de Memorias de las Almas que estara colocado al pie del altar. Los sobres para su “donacion especial” se encuentran detras de las bancas.

RECUERDEN ATRAZAR SUS RELOJES UNA HORA EL PROXIMO SABADO (29 DE OCTUBRE): Para que no pierdan la hora de llegar a Misa y a otros compromisos importantes, recuerden atrazar sus relojes el Sabado antes de irse a la cama.

NOTICIAS DE LA COMUNIDAD
– Celebracion del Dia de las Brujas en Hollywood: Esta prohibido usar “silly string” de acuerdo a una ley vigente desde el ano pasado. Las personas deben divertirse pero se aconseja dejar el “silly string” en casa. Es ilegal el comprar, vender, o distribuir “silly string” a partir de las 12:00 a.m. del 31 de Oct hasta el mediodia del 1ero de Nov. Puede recibir una multa de $1,000.00
