PARISH CENTER NEWS: ARE YOU PREPARED?
Despite millions of dollars spent in crisis management drills and dozens of plans to deal with earthquakes and other calamities Southern California emergency preparedness agencies have done little to plan for mass displacement and destruction across a broad swath of the region on the scale of Hurricane Katrina, according to interviews with state and local authorities.
The miscommunication and mismanagement of initial evacuation and relief efforts after Hurricane Katrina have prompted calls for more planning for the type of unanticipated events that could take down whole areas of the city and country. Both the city and county of Los Angeles have emergency operations centers (built to withstand powerful earthquakes) where officials plan to meet to coordinate aid.
The sheriff, as the top police officer, will be in charge. Local agencies are required by state law to develop detailed disaster relief and evacuation plans, and to set up a structure to ensure that the agencies responsible for emergency assistance can communicate properly. CARNIVAL MEETING: A NOTE FROM THE CARNIVAL CHAIR
Dear Carnival Committee Members,
With the big weekend only 10 days away I am reminding you of our final meeting. I also want to thank you for volunteering & giving all the hours you have so far in the planning and all the hours you are planning to give next weekend to Carnival 2005. All of us here at Blessed Sacrament appreciate your helping hand in making this a fun & successful event. Many things will be discussed at the final Carnival meeting including handing out parking passes and badges to the key people. Bring your enthusiasm and let’s all take part on Tuesday, October 18th at 6:30 pm at the school auditorium.
Group photos of each committee will be taken as well so please plan on staying for this portion of the meeting. That is it for now. Please mark the above in your calendars now. If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to e-mail or call me.

CARNIVAL - OUR INTERNATIONAL FOOD FESTIVAL: will take place October 21, 22 & 23 - ONLY A WEEK AWAY!
– Entertainment: We have lots of entertainment for our 2005 Carnival. A vast variety of music for all tastes! We have groups, soloists, dancers and many, many more attractions such as the Hollywood Boys, King Nat, etc.
– Pre-ride tickets sale: Kemsley pre-sale ride tickets are available at the rectory office. One sheet of tickets is worth $12.00 for 20 tickets. Save some money buying them now! During the Carnival, the ride tickets will be $0.80 cents each. ($16.00 for 20 tickets).
– Carnival Raffle Tickets: Please return ticket stubs and money or/and any unsold raffle ticket to the rectory office as soon as possible. EVERY TICKET IS A POTENTIAL WINNER!
We need your help. Our Carnival is only a Big Success and we can do it - IF - we all work together!

CHOIR CONCERT: Join us for the 4th Annual A Cappella Choir Cabaret Concert on Fri, Oct. 28 & Sat, Oct 29 at 8pm in the school auditorium. This year’s concert, entitled “On the Radio” will feature rock, pop, and R&B music in a call-in radio show format hosted by comedian and parishioner Thai Rivera. A back-up band will accompany all the solo and group acts, and free refreshments will be served. Cost for the concert is $8, with all proceeds going towards the Blessed Sacrament Organ Fund. See choir members for tickets, or call the Music Department for reservations. Come and see a concert preview at the Carnival on Sat, Oct. 22 from 9:00-9:30pm. Don’t miss it!

HEALTH MINISTRY NEWS: We will not be able to have our own Flu Shot event this year. As a community service following is some important information. If you are 60 years or older, or have a chronic illness, such as asthma, heart disease, diabetes, or kidney disorder, you are eligible to receive Los Angeles County influenza vaccine at: Hollywood Senior Center, 1360 N. St. Andrews Place, Los Angeles, CA 90028. Thursday, October 27, 9am-12 noon. If you have an allergy to eggs, or a serious illness, please see your doctor.

BINGO: will be held in the school auditorium. Do not miss it…everybody invited - not only for Seniors!!!

ALL SOULS DAY, WEDNESDAY, NOV. 2: is a day when we especially remember our departed family and friends. As it is our custom, our parish will offer a first intention Mass each day during the month of November at 12:05 for all whose names are in the “Remembrance Book” located in the high altar. Starting today the donation envelopes are placed in the pews for your “special donations.”

EVERYTHING BELONGS TO GOD
The first reading from the prophet Isaiah concerns the Persian King Cyrus, called the Lord’s “anointed.” Cyrus deserves this title because he ended the Babylonian captivity of the Jews. However, Isaiah reminds us that it was God who gave Cyrus his power. He may be a great king, but “I am the LORD and there is no other,” says God (Isaiah 45:5).
Today’s Gospel is also concerned with worldly power. In the passage from Matthew, the Pharisees try to trick Jesus into speaking against the emperor. His famous answer is the perfect reply. Like the kings of old, Caesar can be given the respect due his position, but everything belongs to God.
In the second reading, Paul gives thanks for all who are faithful to Jesus Christ and his gospel. He, too, reminds us that our call and the power to be faithful come from God. — Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co.

REUNION DEL CARNAVAL- MENSAJE DE LA COORDINADORA
Estimados Comites del Carnaval,
Con solo 10 dias para nuestro gran fin de semana, quiero recordarles de nuestra ultima reunion y tambien deseo agradecerles su servicio voluntario y el sin numero de horas que ya han dedicado en la planificacion de nuestro Gran Carnaval 2005 y por todo el tiempo y servicio que todavia nos daran el proximo fin de semana. Todos nosotros aqui en la Parroquia del Santisimo Sacramento apreciamos su ayuda y les agradecemos de antemano por hacer de este evento un suceso extraordinario y divertido a la vez. Muchas cosas estaremos discutiendo en esta ultima reunion inclusive distribuiremos los pases de estacionamiento y tarjetas de identificacion para las personas claves. Traigan su entusiasmo y todos participemos en esta reunion: Martes, 18 de Octubre a las 6:30pm en el auditorio de la escuela.

CENTRO PASTORAL: ESTA UD. PREPARADO?
AUnque millones de dolares se gastan en el entrenamiento experimental de personas que dirigirian una crisis y en docenas de planes para enfrentar terremotos y otros desastres, las agencias del Estado de el Sur de California poco han hecho en el planeamiento para enfrentar catastrofes en masa y el desplazamiento de las personas afectada por estas. La falta de comunicacion y planeamiento en la direccion de la evacuacion y la distribucion de recursos asi como quien estara a cargo de dirigir los planes iniciales son lecciones que ha dejado el Huracan Katrina. Ha demostrado que es necesario prepararse con planes para resolver estos problemas que son tan inesperados y que pueden destruir un area completa asi como una ciudad o un condado. El condado y ciudad de Los Angeles tienen ya centros de operaciones de emergencia, construidos para soportar temblores fuertes o terremotos,Lugares donde oficiales planean encontrarse y coordinar la ayuda necesaria.
El Sheriff como el mas alto oficial policiaco, tomara esa responsabilidad. Existe una Ley Estatal que requiere que las Agencias Locales desarrollen un plan de evacuacion y ayuda para asegurarse que estas agencias puedan communicarse entre si. (Continuara la proxima semana).

CLASES DE TUTORIA EN LECTURA EN INGLES: Estas clases comenzaran el Sabado, 29 de Octubre de 1 a 2pm y son especiales para ninos(as) y jovenes que necesiten reforzar su lectura en ingles. Favor llamar a Osvaldo Avelar al (818) 764-1880 para mas detalles.

CARNAVAL - NUESTRO FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DE COMIDA: SE REALIZARA EL 21, 22 & 23 DE OCTUBRE — SOLO FALTA UNA SEMANA!!!
– Entretenimiento: Tenemos una gran variedad musical. Se presentaran grupos, solistas y bailarines. Tendremos la presencia de Alicia Juarez, Ulises Quintero, Vilma Diaz, Miguel Angel, Rodriguez, Fabiola “La Bandera”, Bravada, Yanalte Galvan etc. No se pierdan todo este espectaculo y mucho mas!
– Boletos para los Juegos Mecanicos: Boletos para los juegos mecanicos del Carnaval estan a la venta en la rectoria. Cada hoja de 20 boletos vale $12.00. Ahorre comprandolos por anticipacion! Durante el Carnaval cada boleto costara $0.80 centavos (20 boletos por $16.00).

CONCIERTO DEL CORO: Los esperamos en nuestro 4to. Concierto del Coro A Capella el Viernes 28 de Octubre, Sabado 29 de Octubre a las 8pm en el auditorio de la escuela. Este ano el concierto se titulara: “En la Radio” y presentaremos musica de rock, pop, R&B al estilo de un show radial que estara a cargo del comediante y feligres Thai Rivera. Una banda acompanara todos los actos y se serviran refrescos. La entrada cuesta $8, y todas los fondos son para el fondo del Organo de nuestra Iglesia. Para comprar los boletos, favor hablar con miembros del coro o pueden llamar al Depto. De Musica para hacer reservas. Tendremos un sinopse del concierto durante el Carnaval el Sabado 22 de 9 a 9:30pm. No se lo pierdan!

MINISTERIO DE LA SALUD: Este ano no tendremos las vacunas de la influenza aqui en la parroquia. DIA DE LOS DIFUNTOS, MIERCOLES 2 NOVIEMBRE: Como todos los anos ofreceremos nuestras intenciones durante las Misas de las 12:05 durante todo el mes de Noviembre en favor de todos los nombres de los difuntos que se an anotado en el “Libro de Memorias de las Almas” que estara colocado al pie del altar. Colocaremos los sobres para su “donacion especial” detras de los reclinatorios a partir de hoy.

ARQUIDIOCESIS PUBLICA VOLUNTARIAMENTE SUMARIOS DE LOS ARCHIVOS DEL CLERO: La Arquidiocesis de Los Angeles ha publicado un Suplemento para ser anadido a su Report to the People of God (Informe al Pueblo de Dios), que cuando fue publicado en Febrero del 2004 examinaba la historia del abuso sexucal del clero en la Arquidiocesis cubriendo los años 1930-2003. Este Suplemento detalla las politicas que han tenido exito, los programas de educacion y de entrenamiento que se han puesto en marcha desde entonces para salvaguardar la seguriad de nuestros ninos en el futuro. TODO PERTENECE A DIOS
La primera lectura del profeta Isaias tiene que ver con el rey persa Ciro, al que Dios llama “elegido.” Ciro merece este titulo ya que acabo con la cautividad de los judios en Babilonia. No obstante, Jesus nos recuerda que fue Dios quien dio a Ciro su poder. Quizas sea un gran rey pero, “Yo soy el Senor, y no hay otro igual,” Dios dice (Isaias 45:5).
El Evangelio de hoy tambien esta relacionado con el poder mundano. En el pasaje de Mateo vemos como los fariseos intentan con artimanas que Jesus hable mal del emperador. Su conocida respuesta es la perfecta replica. Al igual que los reyes de la antiguedad, el Cesar debe ser respetado dada su posicion pero todo pertenece a Dios.
En la segunda lectura, Pablo da las gracias por todos los que son fieles a Jesucristo y su Evangelio. Tambien el nos recuerda que nuestra llamada y el poder de ser fieles provienen de Dios. — Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co
