SO TOO IN CHRIST SHALL ALL BE BROUGHT TO LIFE.
Last year I lost my Son. I was surrounded by my family, which was a wonderful blessing, but alone, in my loss. Then my children all had to go back to their lives, and I looked and looked for a group to join, so I could share my grief with others. I could not find one. I have just finished a course in Bereavement, and want to start this ministry here, at Blessed Sacrament, I hope it will grow and so help others, who have lost loved ones. Sharing does help I know this. I have two wonderful friends from Blessed Sacrament who stayed with me every weekend for months, and if it were not for them, and the spirit of my Son, I could not be doing what I am now. We can help each other. This is true work of God. Please call me if you are interested, so we can meet and organize ourselves. I thank you in the name of Christ,

HEALTH MINISTRY NEWS: On Monday, April 23 the Health Cabinet will provide pneumonia vaccines for our homeless neighbors, in the Social Services Center.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION: Just as the early church consecrated women living alone in the world, today that consecration is available to women who take solemn vows as cloistered nuns different from religious sisters), women who follow a way of life in communities called “secular institutes,” and laywomen. Oddly, the ritual is not permitted for religious sisters. The prayers talk about the woman’s self-gift to Christ, and her self-gift to the Church. Up until recent years, this was a solemn ceremony performed only for cloistered nuns under certain circumstances. In its new form, we have a ritual that revives a very ancient and little-known way of life. Today, a woman can live independently at home, without association with any religious sisterhood or institute, yet be consecrated to holiness and service. Normally, a ring and/or a veil may be given in the liturgy of consecration. It is a rite very different from religious profession, where the sister makes promises or vows, and is rather an expression of approval and blessing for a way of life already embraced. Unlike ancient times, which valued actual virginity, the new rite may be celebrated for anyone provided there has never been a marriage and the woman has always lived a virtuous life. — James Field, © Copyright, J. BLESSED SACRAMENT CHURCH 2007 PARISH STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM
ANNOUNCEMENT SUNDAY
This week, you will receive a brochure that is being mailed to you. This brochure not only contains information regarding the nature of the Parish Stewardship Program, it also contains information on the current giving of our parishioners and the income and expense budget of our parish, as well as, it describes the many ministries opportunities where you can collaborate with your Time, Talent & Treasure in our parish. You are asked to carefully study the brochure and to note the financial giving commendations that it contains. Please fill out at home your Stewardship Commitment Form and bring it to church next weekend. When making your donations we encourage you to use your checks and/or envelopes. It is very helpful to us to know how many members of our parish are actively involved in offering their financial support. Please make a conscious effort to commit your family to support the work of the Lord at Blessed Sacrament Parish.

Did You Know? Ensuring your child’s school is safe
Every teacher, religious, coach and volunteer who works with children in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ parishes and schools must be fingerprinted and background checked before he or she is permitted to work in any school- or parish-related job or activity that brings them into contact with children. But what about the children who attend non-Catholic private, or public schools? Talk with school administrators and find out what steps they take to protect children from harm. Suggest that they review other abuse prevention programs to ensure that their policies and practices are up-to-date. And, demand that all employees and volunteers who work in the school have been properly screened and background checked before they are allowed to be near your children. For particular help you may call: Mrs. Ava Haylock, Coordinator Protecting our Children Program, phone: (323) 467-4177, or Sr. Sheila McNiff, Director of Assistance Ministry at (213) 637-7650.
