Did You Know? Help reduce abuse statistics
Nationally, more than 2 million reports of abuse or neglect of minors are made each year. Between 25% - 50% of all children will experience some form of abuse during childhood. One of every three girls will be sexually abused before the age of 18; and one out of every five to seven boys will be sexually abused by 18. Only a small percentage of child abuse is ever reported. Learn how to spot suspected abuse or neglect, and how to report it to the proper authorities. For more information, please contact your parish Safeguard the Children Committee.
For particular help you may call: Mrs. Ava Haylock, Coordinator Protecting our Children Program, phone: (323) 467-4177, or Sr. Sheila McNiff, Director of Assistance Ministry at (213) 637-7650.

During the summer months, our parish choirs and instrumentalists take various, well-deserved rests and vacations. We encourage all of our parishioners and visiting guests to support our cantors and accompanists in singing during the Masses. All of our parish choirs and instrumentalists will return in the beginning of September.

CARNIVAL RAFFLE TICKETS: are being sold after Masses on Sunday. We need volunteers to help us with the sale of these raffle tickets. Please contact Lauro/Esther Literte for more information and scheduling purposes.

CARNIVAL NEWS:
Dear Friends,
Welcome to the Carnival section of Blessed Sacrament Parish’s bulletin. Hope you were able to join us last year; the faculty, staff, parents, parishioners and friends who attended enjoyed a fabulous weekend of international cuisine, rides, games and wonderful live entertainment. But most importantly, we raised over $70,000-the most ever!
– The 2007 Carnival will be held October 19, 20, 21st and we need your help to make it an even bigger, and more successful, celebration. The carnival is the largest single fundraising event for our school and parish which relies on the money earned to help maintain the facilities, fund social services, and promote our children’s education. There are many creative ways that you can participate and we welcome all suggestions for possible contributions. We hope that you will find it possible to help us in any or all of the following ways:
– Volunteer your time: We can use your help soliciting donations, planning and installing decorations, setting up before the weekend event, preparing food, running the food, game & raffle booths etc. Whether you can spare the time to ask for donations now or you can help us for a few hours during the weekend itself we would be grateful for any time you can give.
– Contribute items: We encourage you to request donations from local businesses that you frequent, and to ask your friends and families if they can help us. You can contact me for solicitation letters.
– Come to the party and enjoy: We will send you more information thru the bulletin as the weekend draws closer but don’t forget that buying raffle tickets is one very important way that you can help defray the costs of planning the carnival to enable as much money as possible goes directly to help the school and parish. We encourage you to invite your colleagues, friends, and families to join us for the weekend. It’s more fun when you bring a crowd and it’s a greater way for prospective families to learn about the school and parish. We will be offering a limited number of discounted ride tickets when the weekend draws nearer. So be on the look out.
– We are excited about the chance to top our fundraising records from previous years and we are looking forward to a terrific weekend with food, games, entertainment and friends. We would be thrilled for you to help us make the 2007 Carnival, Concert & International Cuisine our best yet. Continue to read the bulletin for meeting dates and be a part of one or more of the committees.
Sincerely,
Valerie Milano,Carnival Chair

Una de cada tres niñas será sexualmente abusada antes de cumplir la edad de 18 años y uno de cada cinco a siete niños será sexualmente abusado antes de cumplir los 18 años.
