Did You Know? Recognizing signs of child sexual abuse
Changes in behavior, extreme mood swings, withdrawal, fearlessness, excessive crying, bed-wetting, nightmares, fear of going to bed, sleep disorders and a fear of certain places, people or activities can be signs that a child has been traumatized by sexual abuse. Through its Safeguard the Children program, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles provides abuse prevention training for parents, teachers and others who work with children. This training helps adults to identify and prevent behaviors that may lead to abuse. It also provides parents and others with techniques for talking to children who may be at risk of being abused by others. Contact your parish Safeguard the Children Committee for more information about an abuse prevention training program in your area. For particular help you may call: Mrs. Ava Haylock, Coordinator Protecting our Children Program, phone: (323) 467-4177, or Sr. Sheila McNiff, Director of Assistance Ministry at (213) 637-7650.

CARNIVAL RAFFLE TICKETS are being sold after Masses on Sunday. We need volunteers to help us with the sale of these raffle tickets. Please contact Lauro/Esther Literte for information.

CARNIVAL NEWS:
Dear Friends,
Welcome to the Carnival section of Blessed Sacrament Parish’s bulletin. Hope you were able to join us last year; the faculty, staff, parents, parishioners and friends who attended enjoyed a fabulous weekend of international cuisine, rides, games and wonderful live entertainment. But most importantly, we raised over $70,000-the most ever! The 2007 Carnival will be held October 19, 20, 21st and we need your help to make it an even bigger, and more successful, celebration.
– The carnival is the largest single fundraising event for our school and parish which relies on the money earned to help maintain the facilities, fund social services, and promote our children’s education. There are many creative ways that you can participate and we welcome all suggestions for possible contributions. We hope that you will find it possible to help us in any or all of the following ways:
– Volunteer your time: We can use your help soliciting donations, planning and installing decorations, setting up before the weekend event, preparing food, running the food, game & raffle booths etc. Whether you can spare the time to ask for donations now or you can help us for a few hours during the weekend itself we would be grateful for any time you can give.
– Contribute items: We encourage you to request donations from local businesses that you frequent, and to ask your friends and families if they can help us. You can contact me for solicitation letters.
– Come to the party and enjoy: We will send you more information thru the bulletin as the weekend draws closer but don’t forget that buying raffle tickets is one very important way that you can help defray the costs of planning the carnival to enable as much money as possible goes directly to help the school and parish. We encourage you to invite your colleagues, friends, and families to join us for the weekend. It’s more fun when you bring a crowd and it’s a greater way for prospective families to learn about the school and parish. We will be offering a limited number of discounted ride tickets when the weekend draws nearer. So be on the look out.
– We are excited about the chance to top our fundraising records from previous years and we are looking forward to a terrific weekend with food, games, entertainment and friends. We would be thrilled for you to help us make the 2007 Carnival, Concert & International Cuisine our best yet. Continue to read the bulletin for meeting dates and be a part of one or more of the committees.
Sincerely,
Valerie Milano,Carnival Chair

6And it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue, and taught. And there was a man, whose right hand was withered.
7And the scribes and Pharisees watched if he would heal on the sabbath; that they might find an accusation against him.
8But he knew their thoughts; and said to the man who had the withered hand: Arise, and stand forth in the midst. And rising he stood forth.
9Then Jesus said to them: I ask you, if it be lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil; to save life, or to destroy?
10And looking round about on them all, he said to the man: Stretch forth thy hand. And he stretched it forth: and his hand was restored.
11And they were filled with madness; and they talked one with another, what they might do to Jesus.

6As therefore you have received Jesus Christ the Lord, walk ye in him;
7Rooted and built up in him, and confirmed in the faith, as also you have learned, abounding in him in thanksgiving.
8Beware lest any man cheat you by philosophy, and vain deceit; according to the tradition of men, according to the elements of the world, and not according to Christ:
9For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead corporeally;
10And you are filled in him, who is the head of all principality and power:
11In whom also you are circumcised with circumcision not made by hand, in despoiling of the body of the flesh, but in the circumcision of Christ:
12Buried with him in baptism, in whom also you are risen again by the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him up from the dead.
13And you, when you were dead in your sins, and the uncircumcision of your flesh; he hath quickened together with him, forgiving you all offences:
14Blotting out the handwriting of the decree that was against us, which was contrary to us. And he hath taken the same out of the way, fastening it to the cross:
15And despoiling the principalities and powers, he hath exposed them confidently in open shew, triumphing over them in himself.

12And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and he passed the whole night in the prayer of God.
13And when day was come, he called unto him his disciples; and he chose twelve of them (whom also he named apostles).
14Simon, whom he surnamed Peter, and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew,
15Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alpheus, and Simon who is called Zelotes,
16And Jude, the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, who was the traitor.
17And coming down with them, he stood in a plain place, and the company of his disciples, and a very great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem, and the sea coast both of Tyre and Sidon,
18Who were come to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases. And they that were troubled with unclean spirits, were cured.
19And all the multitude sought to touch him, for virtue went out from him, and healed all.

1Therefore, if you be risen with Christ, seek the things that are above; where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God:
2Mind the things that are above, not the things that are upon the earth.
3For you are dead; and your life is hid with Christ in God.
4When Christ shall appear, who is your life, then you also shall appear with him in glory.
5Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, lust, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is the service of idols.
6For which things the wrath of God cometh upon the children of unbelief,
7In which you also walked some time, when you lived in them.
8But now put you also all away: anger, indignation, malice, blasphemy, filthy speech out of your mouth.
9Lie not one to another: stripping yourselves of the old man with his deeds,
10And putting on the new, him who is renewed unto knowledge, according to the image of him that created him.
11Where there is neither Gentile nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian nor Scythian, bond nor free. But Christ is all, and in all.

20And he, lifting up his eyes on his disciples, said: Blessed are ye poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.
21Blessed are ye that hunger now: for you shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for you shall laugh.
22Blessed shall you be when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man’s sake.
23Be glad in that day and rejoice; for behold, your reward is great in heaven. For according to these things did their fathers to the prophets.
24But woe to you that are rich: for you have your consolation.
25Woe to you that are filled: for you shall hunger. Woe to you that now laugh: for you shall mourn and weep.
26Woe to you when men shall bless you: for according to these things did their fathers to the false prophets.

12Put ye on therefore, as the elect of God, holy, and beloved, the bowels of mercy, benignity, humility, modesty, patience:
13Bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if any have a complaint against another: even as the Lord hath forgiven you, so do you also.
14But above all these things have charity, which is the bond of perfection:
15And let the peace of Christ rejoice in your hearts, wherein also you are called in one body: and be ye thankful.
16Let the word of Christ dwell in you abundantly, in all wisdom: teaching and admonishing one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual canticles, singing in grace in your hearts to God.
17All whatsoever you do in word or in work, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

27But I say to you that hear: Love your enemies, do good to them that hate you.
28Bless them that curse you, and pray for them that calumniate you.
29And to him that striketh thee on the one cheek, offer also the other. And him that taketh away from thee thy cloak, forbid not to take thy coat also.
30Give to every one that asketh thee, and of him that taketh away thy goods, ask them not again.
31And as you would that men should do to you, do you also to them in like manner.
32And if you love them that love you, what thanks are to you? for sinners also love those that love them.
33And if you do good to them who do good to you, what thanks are to you? for sinners also do this.
34And if you lend to them of whom you hope to receive, what thanks are to you? for sinners also lend to sinners, for to receive as much.
35But love ye your enemies: do good, and lend, hoping for nothing thereby: and your reward shall be great, and you shall be the sons of the Highest; for he is kind to the unthankful, and to the evil.
36Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.
37Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you shall be forgiven.
38Give, and it shall be given to you: good measure and pressed down and shaken together and running over shall they give into your bosom. For with the same measure that you shall mete withal, it shall be measured to you again.

6Who being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7But emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men, and in habit found as a man.
8He humbled himself, becoming obedient unto death, even to the death of the cross.
9For which cause God also hath exalted him, and hath given him a name which is above all names:
10That in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those that are in heaven, on earth, and under the earth:
11And that every tongue should confess that the Lord Jesus Christ is in the glory of God the Father.

7And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: Go, get thee down: thy people, which thou hast brought out of the land of Egypt, hath sinned.

9And again the Lord said to Moses: See that this people is stiffnecked:
10Let me alone, that my wrath may be kindled against them, and that I may destroy them, and I will make of thee a great nation.
11But Moses besought the Lord his God, saying: Why, O Lord, is thy indignation kindled against thy people, whom thou hast brought out of the land of Egypt, with great power, and with a mighty hand?
13Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, thy servants, to whom thou sworest by thy own self, saying: I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven: and this whole land that I have spoken of, I will give to you seed, and you shall possess it for ever.

1Now the publicans and sinners drew near unto him to hear him.
2And the Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying: This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.
3And he spoke to them this parable, saying:
4What man of you that hath an hundred sheep: and if he shall lose one of them, doth he not leave the ninety-nine in the desert, and go after that which was lost, until he find it?
5And when he hath found it, lay it upon his shoulders, rejoicing:
6And coming home, call together his friends and neighbours, saying to them: Rejoice with me, because I have found my sheep that was lost?
7I say to you, that even so there shall be joy in heaven upon one sinner that doth penance, more than upon ninety-nine just who need not penance.
8Or what woman having ten groats; if she lose one groat, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently until she find it?
9And when she hath found it, call together her friends and neighbours, saying: Rejoice with me, because I have found the groat which I had lost.
10So I say to you, there shall be joy before the angels of God upon one sinner doing penance.
11And he said: A certain man had two sons:
12And the younger of them said to his father: Father, give me the portion of substance that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his substance.
13And not many days after, the younger son, gathering all together, went abroad into a far country: and there wasted his substance, living riotously.
14And after he had spent all, there came a mighty famine in that country; and he began to be in want.
15And he went and cleaved to one of the citizens of that country. And he sent him into his farm to feed swine.
16And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks the swine did eat; and no man gave unto him.
17And returning to himself, he said: How many hired servants in my father’s house abound with bread, and I here perish with hunger?
18I will arise, and will go to my father, and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee:
19I am not worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.
20And rising up he came to his father. And when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and was moved with compassion, and running to him fell upon his neck, and kissed him.
21And the son said to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, I am not now worthy to be called thy son.
22And the father said to his servants: Bring forth quickly the first robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:
23And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it, and let us eat and make merry:
24Because this my son was dead, and is come to life again: was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.
25Now his elder son was in the field, and when he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard music and dancing:
26And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant.
27And he said to him: Thy brother is come, and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe.
28And he was angry, and would not go in. His father therefore coming out began to entreat him.
29And he answering, said to his father: Behold, for so many years do I serve thee, and I have never transgressed thy commandment, and yet thou hast never given me a kid to make merry with my friends:
30But as soon as this thy son is come, who hath devoured his substance with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf.
31But he said to him: Son, thou art always with me, and all I have is thine.
32But it was fit that we should make merry and be glad, for this thy brother was dead and is come to life again; he was lost, and is found.

6As therefore you have received Jesus Christ the Lord, walk ye in him;
7Rooted and built up in him, and confirmed in the faith, as also you have learned, abounding in him in thanksgiving.
8Beware lest any man cheat you by philosophy, and vain deceit; according to the tradition of men, according to the elements of the world, and not according to Christ:
9For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead corporeally;

13And no man hath ascended into heaven, but he that descended from heaven, the Son of man who is in heaven.
14And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of man be lifted up:
15That whosoever believeth in him, may not perish; but may have life everlasting.
16For God so loved the world, as to give his only begotten Son; that whosoever believeth in him, may not perish, but may have life everlasting.
17For God sent not his Son into the world, to judge the world, but that the world may be saved by him.

15A faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into this world to save sinners, of whom I am the chief.
16But for this cause have I obtained mercy: that in me first Christ Jesus might shew forth all patience, for the information of them that shall believe in him unto life everlasting.
17Now to the king of ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

25Now there stood by the cross of Jesus, his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalen.
26When Jesus therefore had seen his mother and the disciple standing whom he loved, he saith to his mother: Woman, behold thy son.
27After that, he saith to the disciple: Behold thy mother. And from that hour, the disciple took her to his own.

7And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: Go, get thee down: thy people, which thou hast brought out of the land of Egypt, hath sinned.
8They have quickly strayed from the way which thou didst shew them: and they have made to themselves a molten calf, and have adored it, and sacrificing victims to it, have said: These are thy gods, O Israel, that have brought thee out of the land of Egypt.
14And the Lord was appeased from doing the evil which he had spoken against his people.

12I give thanks who hath strengthened me, even to Christ Jesus our Lord, for that he hath counted me faithful, putting me in the ministry;
13Who before was a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and contumelious. But I obtained the mercy of God, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
14Now the grace of our Lord hath abounded exceedingly with faith and love, which is in Christ Jesus.
