CARNIVAl NEWS: 2008 Carnival Solicitations Committee Meeting: Looking for a way to get involved in Blessed Sacrament’s biggest fundraiser of the year? Please join us this Monday, December 17, 2007 @ 7:30pm in the Xavier Room on the second floor of the school building, for our next Carnival Solicitations Committee meeting. At this meeting, we will be discussing strategy for next year’s event. All are welcome to attend. In particular, we need people who enjoy networking, building relationships with area business owners, soliciting gifts, and anyone who enjoys marketing and promoting events. A CAPELLA CHOIR ADVENT VESPERS & LESSONS AND CAROLS CONCERT: Don’t miss the 2nd Annual A Capella Choir Advent Vespers & Lessons and Carols Concert to be held on Friday, December 21 at 8:00pm in the church sanctuary. You will absolutely love the Christmas music performed, and you will definitely be moved by the majestic spirituality of the prayer service. A variety of music will be sung, much of it consisting of familiar carols that everyone loves to hear!
The concert is free, but an offering benefiting the organ fund and music department will be taken at intermission. A Capella Christmas CD’s will be sold after the performance. The concert has been specifically scheduled to begin as the Simbang Gabi Novena Mass ends, so that all may use the concert to deepen their Advent journey. POINSETTIA OFFERING - A GIFT OF LOVE… We invite the community of Blessed Sacrament at all the Masses on Sunday, Dec. 16 to bring a Poinsettia for a special offering and procession during the offertory. NOTICIAS DEL CARNAVAL: El Comité de Solicitaciones se reunirá el Lunes 17 de Diciembre a las 7:30pm en el Salón Francisco Xavier (segundo piso de la escuela). Todos los que quieran participar del mayor evento para recaudar dinero de la parroquia está invitado. Estaremos discutiendo estrategias para el próximo año. CONCIERTO DE VILLANCICOS NAVIDEÑOS No se pierdan el concierto que presentará el Coro A Capella el Viernes 21 de Diciembre a las 8:00pm en la Iglesia. Estamos seguros que ustedes adorarán este Musical de Navidad. Tendremos una gran variedad de música que todos conocen y que les encantará escuchar estos villancicos familiares. El Concierto es gratis. Tendremos una colecta durante el intermedio para beneficiar al departamento de música y la compostura del órgano. El concierto ha sido especialmente programado para empezar a las 8:00pm, para que así, las personas que están asistiendo a la Misa en bilingue en el auditorio a las 7:00pm, continúen su preparación durante el Adviento asistiendo al concierto. Querida Comunidad de la Parroquia del Santísimo Sacramento,
Todavía me siento muy conmovido con todo el afecto y cariño que me demostraron durante los seis años que viví en Hollywood. Recientemente estuve leyendo el autográfo que me regalaron durante mi despedida y constantemente me recuerdo de todos ustedes y de los maravillosos momentos que pasé allí en la parroquia.
Que mejor momento para agradecerles todo este cariño que durante la Navidad y Fiesta de Año Nuevo! Tengan la completa seguridad que aúnque ausente, en este remoto país de las Himalayas, los recuerdaré a todos ustedes y sus familias en mis oraciones durante la Navidad. Feliz Año Nuevo! TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE La tradición mexicana de las Posadas se acompaña de las tradicionales piñatas. Aunque hay piñatas de animales y caricaturas, la piñata original es una estrella con siete picos. La piñata llega al continente con los misioneros agustinos procedentes de España, mismos que la habían recibido de italianos; y éstos, a su vez, la obtuvieron de Marco Polo quien conoció decoraciones de animales coloridos en China. El asociar la piñata con las Posadas viene de la cultura Náhuatl quienes celebraban a Huitzilopochtli (dios de la guerra) del 17 al 26 de diciembre. Estos ponían cazuelas de barro decoradas con listones y plumas sobre palos en el templo. Al romperlas, tesoros y alhajas caían a los pies de su dios. Los misioneros mezclaron las dos costumbres para la catequesis. La estrella de siete picos representa al diablo y los 7 pecados capitales, mientras que la venda en los ojos es la fe en Cristo. El acto de pegarle a la piñata son nuestros esfuerzos cristianos a pesar de las desorientaciones que trae la vida.
