WELCOME, FR. TOM SHERMAN, SJ: We welcome Fr. Tom Sherman, SJ, PhD, who is currently studying Spirituality at the Collegio Bellarmino in Rome. Fr. Tom will be with us a couple of weeks helping with daily and weekend Masses.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS: Enrollment is open for all those children, youth and adults seeking preparation for the Sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation for the new school year 2008-09. SECOND COLLECTION NATIONAL NEEDS COMBINED: Today, we have a Second Collection on behalf of the National Needs Combined that:
– Makes it possible for us to continue strengthening Catholic faith, values and education through The Catholic Communication Campaign’s television, radio, and print messages.
– Helps support some of the poorest dioceses in the country that depend on annual collections. Through vital evangelization programs, the Black and Indian Home Mission provides aid to some of the neediest African-American and Native American communities.
– Enables us to insure the highest standards of quality Catholic education through the Catholic University of America’s exceptional programs of scholarship, research, and service. Strengthens the Church at home, and helps to provide basic pastoral resources and services to needy ethnic communities in scattered and isolated areas through the Catholic Home Missions Appeal.

“Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion”: Come participate in the Blessed Sacrament community as member of the Eucharistic Ministry. As a part of the Liturgy of the Mass you will be serving the community of Blessed Sacrament by assisting the priest in distributing the Sacred Body and Blood of Christ to your fellow parishioners. VIRTUS WORKSHOP: For Liturgical Ministers, Catechists, School, Social Services and Parish Personnel: The Virtus Workshop – For the Protection of Children will be offered at Blessed Sacrament on Saturday, August 16 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. There will be two workshops, one in English and one in Spanish. Please mark you calendars and plan to attend this workshop if you have not done so in the past. Protecting our children is of prime concern for our parish.

During the summer months, our parish choirs and instrumentalists take various, well-deserved rests and vacations. We encourage all of our parishioners and visiting guests to support our cantors and accompanists in singing during the Masses. All of our parish choirs and instrumentalists will return in the beginning of September.

SOCIAL SERVICES: Social Services will we sponsoring a Rummage sale to support the building of a grotto for Virgin of Guadalupe, here at Blessed Sacrament-SUNDAY, JULY 27, 2008, from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm. “Priests, deacons, school faculty and administrators and other staff members in our parishes and schools have been designated as mandated reporters under California Law. When one of these persons receives information leading to a “reasonable suspicion” that a child is being abused or neglected, he or she must make a report to the appropriate child protection or law enforcement agency.” From the pamphlet, “Working Together to Prevent Child Sexual Abuse: Keeping Ministerial Relationships Healthy & Holy,” published by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. BIENVENIDO PADRE TOM SHERMAN, S.J. PhD: Le damos la bienvenida al Padre Tom, el Padre Tom actualmente está estudiando Espiritualidad en el Colegio Bellarmino en Roma. El Padre Tom estará con nosotros un par de semanas ayudando con las Misas semanales y con las de los Domingos.

SEGUNDA COLECTA COLECTA COMBINADA PARA LA NECESIDAD NACIONAL: Hoy tenemos una Segunda Colecta Combinada para la Necesidad Nacional que:
– Hace posible que continuemos fortaleciendo la fe, los valores y la educación católica por medio de los mensajes de televisión, radio y prensa de la Campaña de Comunicación Católica.
Ayuda económicamente a las diócesis en las áreas más pobres de nuestro país que dependen de colectas anuales. Por medio de programas de evangelización, la Misión para Afro-Americanos e Indígenas Americanas provee asistencia a estas comunidades.
– Ayuda a asegurar la mejor calidad de educación católica por medio de programas excepcionales de becas, investigación y servicio de la Universidad Católica de América.
– Fortalece la Iglesia doméstica y ayuda a proveer recursos y servicios pastorales básicos a las comunidades más necesitadas en áreas aisladas y esparcidas a través de la Solicitud pra las Misiones Católicas Domésticas.

TALLER DEL PROGRAMA VIRTUS: Para Ministros de Liturgia, Catequistas, La Escuela, El Centro de Servicios Sociales y el Personal de la Parroquia Taller del programa Virtus- para la protección de los niños se llevará a cabo el sábado 16 de Agosto de 10:00am a 1:pm, en la Iglesia del Santísimo Sacramento. Habrá dos talleres, uno en inglés y el otro en español. Por favor marque su calendario. Este taller es sólo para las personas que aún no lo han tomado. Proteger a los niños es una de nuestras mayores preocupaciones aquí en nuestra parroquia.

Siendo este el caso cuando una de estas personas recibe información sobre una sospecha razonable, la denuncia se hará en forma inmediata a las autoridades competentes.
