MISSIONARY COOPERATION PLAN SECOND COLLECTION: Today we have a 2nd collection for the Dominican Mission Foundation on the work that they develop in Mexico, Guatemala, Kenya, Lithuania, and the Philippines. Fr. Vicent Lopez, O.P. is here to talk about this Ministry. Fr. Lopez is being a priest for 52 years and has spent most of it in high school Ministry. Corresponding donation envelopes are found behind the pews. Thank you for your generosity.

MINISTRY WITH GAYS & LESBIANS: We are planning another potluck on Sunday, August 24th following the 5:30pm Mass in the garden area behind the church.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS: Enrollment is open for all those children, youth and adults seeking preparation for the Sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation for the new school year 2008-09. RCIA: The sessions begin at the end of September in the rectory office.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion: Come participate in the Blessed Sacrament community as member of the Eucharistic Ministry. As a part of the Liturgy of the Mass you will be serving the community of Blessed Sacrament by assisting the priest in distributing the Sacred Body and Blood of Christ to your fellow parishioners. During the summer months, our parish choirs and instrumentalists take various, well-deserved rests and vacations. We encourage all of our parishioners and visiting guests to support our cantors and accompanists in singing during the Masses. All of our parish choirs and instrumentalists will return in the beginning of September.

COLLECTOR’S GALLERIA: Time to start collecting special items: Antique pieces we don’t use and maybe have stored away in our homes: Lamps, mirrors, picture frames, china, crystal, jewelry, rosaries, statues, bibles, rare books, silverware…you name it, we want it. Scarves, pieces of crochet, afghan, needlepoint or embroidery these too are welcome! Bring all your donated articles to the rectory office marked “Collectors Galleria” – Attention: Georgia De Jesus, and Julianne Cruz . Thank you in advance for your cooperation!!

CARNIVAL RAFFLE TICKETS: Are being sold after Masses on Sunday. We need volunteers to help us with the sale of these raffle tickets. Please contact Lauro/Esther Literte for more information and scheduling purposes.

CARNIVAL NEWS: There will be a carnival meeting on Tuesday, August 26th at 7:30pm in the Parish Center. It will be for the Food, Publicity, Solicitations, People Power (which includes school & Religious Education), & Raffle Committees. Please mark your calendars!

CARNIVAL NEWS: Welcome to the Carnival section of Blessed Sacrament Parish’s bulletin. Hope you were able to join us last year; the faculty, staff, parents, parishioners and friends who attended enjoyed a fabulous weekend of international cuisine, rides, games and wonderful live entertainment. The 2008 Carnival will be held October 17,18, 19th and we need your help to make it an even bigger, and more successful, celebration. The carnival is the largest single fundraising event for our school and parish which relies on the money earned to help maintain the facilities, fund social services, and promote our children’s education. There are many creative ways that you can participate and we welcome all suggestions for possible contributions. We hope that you will find it possible to help us in any or all of the following ways:
Volunteer your time:
We can use your help soliciting donations, planning and installing decorations, setting up before the weekend event, preparing food, running the food, game & raffle booths etc. Whether you can spare the time to ask for donations now or you can help us for a few hours during the weekend itself we would be grateful for any time you can give.
Contribute items:
We encourage you to request donations from local businesses that you frequent, and to ask your friends and families if they can help us. You can contact me for solicitation letters.
Come to the party and enjoy:
We will send you more information thru the bulletin as the weekend draws closer but don’t forget that buying raffle tickets is one very important way that you can help defray the costs of planning the carnival to enable as much money as possible goes directly to help the school and parish. We encourage you to invite your colleagues, friends, and families to join us for the weekend. It’s more fun when you bring a crowd and it’s a greater way for prospective families to learn about the school and parish. We will be offering a limited number of discounted ride tickets when the weekend draws nearer. So be on the look out.

Did You Know? Sexual abuse of minors is a pervasive social problem
“Child abuse is a frightening social reality. Numerous studies, while not in full agreement, estimate that some 40% of girls and 30% of boys suffer some form of molestation by an adult during their childhood and adolescence, with the majority of child sexual abuse occurring within the setting of an extended family. We as the ‘People of God’ are called to work together to stop all forms of sexual abuse, wherever they occur.” From the pamphlet, “Working Together to Prevent Child Sexual Abuse: Keeping Ministerial Relationships Healthy & Holy,” published by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. PLAN DE COOPERACION MISIONERA 2ND COLECTA: Hoy tenemos una Segunda colecta en beneficio de la Fundación de Misiones Dominicanas, en la labor que vienen desarrollando en México, Guatemala, Kenya, Lituania y las Filipinas. Tenemos con nosotros al Padre Martín de Porres Walsh, O.P., Director de esta Fundación Dominicana quien nos viene a dar su testimonio. Antes de ser sacerdote, el Padre Martín, trabajo en la parte de Servicios Sociales en el tercer mundo como uno de los fundadores de “Amigos Anónimos”. El ha trabajado en San Francisco y Mexicali. También ha sido Director Vocacional de su provincia y en le 2003 fue nombrado Director de la Fundación Dominicana Mundial. Los sobres correspondientes para la donación esta detrás de la bancas. Gracias por su generosidad. El ministerio de gay & lesbianas Católicos de la Parroquia realizará una comida de camarería el domingo 24 de agosto después de la misa de 5:30pm- todos los interesados en este ministerio están invitados a asistir.

EDUCACION RELIGIOSA: El programa de Educación Religiosa está recibiendo solicitudes para la preparación a los Sacramentos de Primera Comunión y Confirmación de niños y adultos para su programa del 2008-09 a comenzar en Septiembre. Durante los meses de verano, los miembros de nuestros coros e instrumentalistas toman unas bien merecidas vacaciones. Deseamos pedir a todos nuestros feligreses y personas que nos estén visitando que acompañen a nuestros cantantes e instrumentalistas cantando durante las Misas. Sabe Usted? El Abuso Sexual de Menores – Un Problema Penetrante Social
El abuso de los niños es una realidad social alarmante. Numerosos estudios, aunque no están totalmente de acuerdo, calculan que un 40% de las niñas y un 30% de los niños han sufrido una forma de molestación por un adulto durante su niñez y adolescencia, con la mayoría del abuso sexual ocurriendo dentro del círculo familiar. Nosotros, como “Pueblo de Dios” somos llamados a trabajar juntos para impedir toda forma de abuso sexual, donde quiera que ocurra. El folleto, “Trabajando Juntos Para Prevenir el Abuso Sexual de los Niños: Manteniendo las Relaciones Ministeriales Sanas y Santas” publicado por la Arquidiócesis de Los Angeles esta disponible en la pagina de Internet: www.archdiocese.la/protecting/resources. NOTICIAS DEL CARNAVAL: Bienvenidos a la sección del Carnaval. Esperamos que nos puedan acompañar este año. Todos los que participaron el año pasado disfrutaron de un fin de semana super fabuloso, lleno de entretenimiento para grandes y chicos, buena comida y excelente música.
El Carnaval este año se realizará el 17, 18 y 19 de Octubre y necesitamos de su ayuda para que todo resulte un éxito. Este Carnaval es nuestro evento más grande para la recaudación de fondos que nos permitan: mantener nuestras facilidades funcionando en buen estado; ayudar económicamente a la Oficina de Servicios Sociales; y promover la educación de nuestros niños. Esperamos que nos puedan ayudar en cualquiera de las siguientes maneras:
Hágase voluntario donando su tiempo
Podemos usar su ayuda para solicitar donaciones, para coordinar y instalar decoraciones, para arreglar las tómbolas días antes del Carnaval, preparando comida, supervisando los puestos de comida, juegos & rifas. Si usted puede usar su tiempo antes del Carnaval solictando donaciones o si piensa que puede ayudar durante los días que el Carnaval se lleva a cabo, de cualquier manera agradecemos cualquier tiempo que nos pueda dar.
Cosas para donar
Pueden solicitar donaciones de negocios locales los cuales ustedes frequentan, pedir a sus amistades y familia si nos pueden ayudar. Llámenme para obtener las cartas de solicitud.
Vengan a la Fiesta para divertirse
Daremos más información a través del boletín conforme se acerque la fecha, pero no se olviden que la compra de los boletos de la rifa del Carnaval es lo más importante y que eso nos ayuda a cubrir los gastos de planificación y a su vez permite que recaudemos más dinero para la escuela y la parroquia. Inviten a sus familiares y amigos para que vengan a pasar este fin de semana con nosotros. Estaremos ofreciendo un número limitado de boletos para los juegos mecánicos cuando se acerque la fecha. Estén atentos!
