SPECIAL MULTI-LINGUAL THANKSGIVING MASS – THANKSGIVING DAY (THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 27, 2008 @ 10:00 AM. Let’s bring our community together and offer praise and Thanksgiving to God. At the 10:00 am Multi-lingual Mass, we in invite all parishioners to bring non-perishable goods as donation for the needy in our parish.  All through December a group of volunteers will be making Christmas baskets arrangements with these donations and baskets will be distributed by Christmas. There will be no Confessions on Thanksgiving Day.

SCHOOL THANKSGIVING MASS: All parishioners and friends of Blessed Sacrament School are cordially invited to attend the School Thanksgiving Mass tomorrow  Monday, November 24 at 12:05pm.

RECTORY OFFICE CLOSED – THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY: The rectory office will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 27 (Thanksgiving Day) and on Friday, Nov. 28. We will reopen as usual on Sat. Nov. 29.

NO 5:30 PM MASS NEXT SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 30th: Due to the Annual Hollywood Christmas Parade there will not be a 5:30 pm  Mass next Sunday, Nov. 30th.

Catholic Campaign for Human Development 2nd. Collection
Today we have a 2nd. Collection on behalf of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. Your gift supports programs that bring people together to solve community. problems, create affordable housing for low-income families, reach new skills and create jobs, help those in poverty achieve self reliance and self sufficiency, educate Catholics about poverty and Catholic social teaching. Please give generously! Donation envelopes are found behind the pews.

THANKSGIVING CELEBRATION: This year again, as part of our Thanksgiving celebration, we are having the Food Drive for the needy families in our parish as well as the Gift Tree name  drawing for the children of our parish. On Thanksgiving Day at the 10:00 am Multi-Lingual  Service parishioners are requested to bring canned food, cereals, juices, etc. so that volunteers can prepare “Christmas baskets” for our needy families. Thank you!!!

REMEMBRANCE BOOK: Our parish “Remembrance Book”, for the names of our beloved deceased, will be available near the main altar as of November 1st. Please come and write the names of your deceased family and friends in the book. We shall pray for them at all our Masses during November.

SOCIAL SERVICES NEWS: Christmas is around the corner and it is time for us to start enrolling children in our Toy Distribution Program. We will be taking names until  Monday, November 24.  Come  to Social Services and enroll your  child.
– Loyola Law School is assisting families with many different legal issues, through his Center for Conflict Resolution.  Some of the Services they offer are:  Consumer/Merchant, Collection Agencies, Landlord/Tenant, Evictions, Repairs, Apartment Conditions; Family/ Domestic/ Divorces; Employment related problems; and many more.   For  information, please call (213) 736-1145.

2008 Together In Mission Campaign Is Nearing The End
The final billing for the 2008 Together in Mission Campaign will be sent, early December, to those who still have a balance due on their pledges. Our parishioners have already contributed $29,205.50 but we still must contribute $6,416.73 more to reach our cash goal of $35,622.23.  If we do not reach our parish goal in cash received, we will need to pay the difference from our normal parish operating funds.  All funds received en excess of our parish goal will be rebated 100% back to our parish. The 35 parishes and 48 schools that receive funding from this campaign are depending on the generosity of those who contribute in order to continue providing sacramental,  ministerial and educational services to those who live in the most financially disadvantaged areas of our Archdiocese. If you have a balance due on your pledge please make every effort to pay it. If you have not already made a donation, please call 323 462-6311 at the parish office and  arrange to make a contribution. Thank you to all who share their financial resources with the thousands of adults and children served by these parishes and schools which are financially supported by your generosity to the “Together in Mission” Campaign.

The Archdiocese mandates that all people who work with children and youth in our parishes and schools must undergo child abuse prevention training through the VIRTUS program. The training details five steps to prevent child sexual abuse: 1. Know the warning signs of an inappropriate relationship with a child. 2. Control access to children by carefully selecting the adults who work with children and youth. 3. Monitor all programs for the safety of children and youth. 4. Be aware of, and sensitive to, what is going on in the lives of children. 5. Communicate concerns to the appropriate person in authority. On Friday, November 21, Carlos and Salud Rubalcava of our parish and Fr. Mike were in Columbus Georgia at The Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation formerly known as the School of the Americas which trained Government Soldiers like those who killed the six priests and two women at the UCA on November 16, 1989. They were with thousands from around the country who are part of the Ignatian Family, people connected with Jesuit ministries around the USA and Latin America. They protested the past actions of the school, and said no more to bloody American terrorism even as we fight foreign terrorism on our soil. We pray that this investment of time and talent will make a statement in favor of justice in our world.

MISA DE ACCION DE GRACIAS DE LA ESCUELA: Están invitados a asistir a la Misa de Acción de Gracias que los estudiantes celebrarán mañana Lunes 24 de Noviembre a las 12:05.

RECTORIA CERRADA: La oficina de la rectoria estará cerrada el Jueves, Nov. 27 (Dia de Acción de Gracias)  y el Viernes, Nov. 28.  Reabriremos el Sábado en nuestro horario de costumbre.

CELEBRACION DEL DIA DE ACCION DE GRACIAS: este año nuevamente tendremos la “Campaña para recolectar alimentos” en favor de las familias necesitadas de nuestra parroquia y el “Arbolito de Regalos” para los niños necesitados de la parroquia. El Día de Acción de Gracias durante nuestro servicio multi-lingue de las 10:00am se pide a los feligreses traer comida enlatada, en cajas, jugos, etc. para que voluntarios  preparen  “Canastas Navideñas” para las familias de pocos recursos económicos y al mismo tiempo escogerán el nombre de un niño/a para donar regalitos en Navidad.

Señor Dios, Padre Celestial, Tu Hijo Jesucristo nos dijo: “La mies es abundante, pero los obreros pocos. Pedid al dueño de la mies que envíe obreros a su mies”. Animados por estas enseñanzas, te pedimos que envíes a tu Iglesia, numerosas y santas vocaciones para el sacerdocio, a la vida religiosa y al apostolado laical. Sabe Usted? Cinco pasos para un ambiente seguro
La Arquidiócesis asigna que por mandato, que toda la gente que trabaje con niños y jóvenes en nuestras parroquias y escuelas, debe participar en el entrenamiento de la prevención del abuso de menores por medio del programa VIRTUS.  El entrenamiento detalla cinco pasos para prevenir el abuso sexual de menores: 1. Sepa las señales de peligro de una relación inadecuada con un niño. 2. Controle el acceso a los niños, cuidadosamente seleccione a los adultos que trabajan con ellos.  3. Supervise todos los programas para la seguridad de los niños y jóvenes.  4. Entérese y sea sensible a lo que está pasando en las vidas de los niños.  5. Comunique inquietudes  o preocupaciones a la persona indicada en autoridad. SERVICIOS SOCIALES: La Navidad esta a la vuelta de la esquina y es tiempo de empezar a inscribir los niños en  nuestro Programa de distribución de juguetes,. Estaremos tomando nombres  hasta el Lunes 24 de Noviembre en la Ofician de Servicios Sociales.   Vengan a inscribir sus niños.
– La facultad de Leyes de la Universidad de Loyola,  esta prestando asistencia a las familias con problemas  Legales, tales como, Consumidor /Comerciantes, Agencias de Colección, Duenos/Inquilinos, Desalojos, Problemas de Vivienda, Divorcios, problemas Domésticos o de Familia, Problemas relacionados con trabajo y muchos mas.   Para mas información, favor de llamar al (213)7361145.

La Campaña Unidos en Misión 2008 Se está acercando al final
El último recordatorio de  pago de la Campaña Unidos en Misión 2008 será enviado a principios de diciembre a quienes todavía tienen un saldo pendiente en sus promesas.  Nuestros feligreses ya han contribuido a la fecha con $29,205.50 pero aún tenemos que recaudar $6,416.73 más  para alcanzar nuestra meta de $35,622.23.  Si no alcanzamos nuestra meta parroquial necesitaremos pagar la diferencia de nuestros fondos normales de operación de la parroquia.  Todos los fondos que sobrepasen nuestra meta parroquial nos serán devueltos en su totalidad. Las 35 parroquias y 48 escuelas que reciben fondos de esta campaña dependen de la generosidad de aquellos que contribuyen para que se puedan seguir prestando  servicios sacramentales, ministeriales y educativos a quienes viven en las áreas más necesitadas de nuestra  Arquidiócesis. El viernes 21 de Noviembre, Carlos y Salud Rubalcava feligreses de nuestra parroquia y el Padre Mike estuvieron en Columbus, Georgia en el Instituto del Hemisferio Oeste para Cooperación de Seguridad, antiguamente llamado y conocido como La Escuela de las Américas, donde se entrenaban a soldados del gobierno, como los que mataron a seis sacerdotes y dos mujeres laicas en la Universidad Central de las Américas en el Salvador un 16 de Noviembre de 1989. Hubieron muchos miles de personas de diferentes partes del país quienes forman la Familia Ignaciana, gente conectada con Ministerios Jesuitas en los Estados Unidos de  Norteamérica y Latinoamérica. Ellos protestaron por las acciones de esta escuela en el pasado , y dijeron no al sangriento terrorismo Americano aún cuando nosotros estemos combatiendo el terrorismo  en nuestro propio suelo. Oramos y pedimos que todo este tiempo y talento invertido en esta representación de protesta sirva para hacer un llamado en favor de la justicia en nuestro mundo.
