15 OT Seeds — Rough outline

By Fr. James Doogan, S.J. on 14-07-2008 | Homily | Comments Off

15th Sunday of Ordinary Time

Coming on audio God in his creation. Nurturing, nature, innate properties
Nature/Good is when something is what it is created to be – natural including us.

1st Rdg
the rain and snow come down and do not return
till they have watered the earth,
making it fertile and fruitful,
as with the word of God

R. (Lk 8:8) The seed that falls on good ground will yield a fruitful harvest.

2nd Rdg
We know that all creation is groaning in labor pains even until now.

Gospel
1. path, and birds came and ate it up.
2. rocky ground,  little soil. It sprang up, not deep, scorched by sun withered for lack of roots.
3. thorns and the thorns grew up and choked it. Rich soil, and produced fruit,.
Whoever has ears ought to hear.”
To anyone who has, more will be given and he will grow rich;
from anyone who has not, even what he has will be taken away.
Path – Does not understand God – hence themselves who are made in God’s image.  Doubt and ignorance paralyzes conversion and progress.
One hears but does not understand, does not ruminate with the Word or try to apply it to ones own life. Evil steals the heart’s desire. Who treads upon your personal space? If you don’t hold on to what you dearly love – it will be taken way.  Do you let those in the world walk all over you – secure your center – what you believe and who you are. Let nothing or no one steal who you truly are.

WHO OR WHAT STEALS OUR JOY –

WHY ARE WE NOT FUFILLING OUR TRUE PASSIONS,  CALLINGS, TALENTS
– Shallow, superficial, in vogue, MAKES US WANT TO BE SOMETHING ELSE. Rocky receives it at once with joy no root – doesn’t last, just trendy … hard times and they immediately fall away.  Perhaps someone or a scandal lets them down — priest, nun, requests for money, hypocrites, disagreements with the Vatican. Yet there faith should be their own.

What prevents us from going deep? Thorns worldly anxiety, riches, cliques, chokes the word and it bears no fruit. But the seed sown on rich soil is the one, who hears the word and understands it, Who/What is chocking the spiritual life from us.
