• Easter Vigil (C), April 7, 2007
• Theme: The Resurrection Brings Us Hope

• It has been quite a week.
• Over the last days, we celebrate the services on Holy Thursday and Good Friday.
• How many attended on or both services?
• On Holy Thursday we recalled that Jesus washed the feet of the disciples and that later he instituted the Eucharist.
• On Good Friday with word and music we experienced the Stations of the Cross in the English service, and the Passion Play in the Spanish service.
• Today we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus.
• We are joyful
• The Service is beautiful
• But what does the Resurrection mean in the world in which we live?

• Our World today seems to support a Culture of Death rather than of Life
• Physician assisted suicide legislation is pending in the State Legislature.
• The Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan continue to take lives and to divide the politics of this country.
• Global warming seems ever more real and disastrous
• Scandals in our Government and in our Church challenge us and embarrass us.
• We seem to be stuck in a perpetual Calvary in our world today.

• So what does Resurrection mean?
• For us today – Easter gives us HOPE for the future and for humankind.
• Jesus did conquer sin and death – therefore there is hope for the world.
• Today we celebrate that with our help and involvement, God can bring New Life out of what is dead in our souls and in our world.

• Tonight as a sign of that hope we will initiate 16 people into full fellowship in the Catholic Church
• 7 will be Baptized, Confirmed and receive their First Communion
• 9 who are already Baptized will complete their initiation into the church with Confirmation and First Communion.
• These fine men and women have walked a journey of faith over the last seven months.
• Tonight they take another step in their journey giving hope for the future.
• We welcome them, and we are grateful to them for inspiring us.

• Were you their when Jesus rose from the dead?
• Yes, as Jesus continues to call new life out of death in our world today.

• Tema: La Resurrección Nos Trae la Esperanza

• ¡Que semana tan poderosa¡
• A lo largo de la semana, celebramos los servicios del Jueves Santo y Viernes Santo.
• ¿Cuántos asistieron en un servicio u otro?
• El Jueves Santo recordamos que Jesús lavó los pies de sus propios apóstoles, y más tarde instituyó la Santa Eucaristía.
• El Viernes Santo por medio de La Vía crucis en Ingles, y de la obra de teatro en Español, nos acordamos del sufrimiento que Jesús experimentó.
• Hoy celebramos la Resurrección de Jesús
• Estamos alegres
• El Servicio es bello
• Pero, ¿Qué significa la Resurrección en nuestro mundo de hoy en día?

• Parece que nuestro mundo esta envuelto en la cultura de muerte en lugar de la de vida.
• Hay legislación pendiente que permite a los médicos que ayuden a los que quieren suicidarse.
• Las guerras en Irak y Afganistán siguen quitando la vida de los jóvenes y haciendo pedazos la política de este país.
• El globo se calienta más cada día.
• Nos dan vergüenza los escándalos en nuestro Gobierno y en nuestra Iglesia.
• Parece que estamos estancados en un Calvario perpetuo en nuestro mundo de hoy.

• Entonces, ¿Qué significa la Resurrección?
• Para nosotros – La Resurrección de Jesús nos da la ESPERANZA para nuestro futuro y el de nuestro mundo
• Jesús venció la muerte y el pecado – Por eso hay esperanza en nuestro mundo
• Hoy celebramos que con la ayuda de nuestra entrega, Dios puede realizar la vida nueva sacado de lo que esta muerta en nuestros corazones y en nuestro mundo.

• Esta noche, como señal de esta esperanza, recibiremos a dieciséis personas en nuestra Iglesia Católica.
• Siete van ser bautizados y recibir la Confirmación y la Comunión.
• Nueve, que ya son bautizados, van a recibir los sacramentos de Comunión y Confirmación.
• Estas hermosas personas han iniciado una jornada de fe a lo largo de los últimos siete meses.
• Esta noche, van a tomar otro paso en su jornada, dándonos a todos, la esperanza para el futuro.
• Les damos le bienvenida. Estamos agradecidos por su inspiración.

• ¿Estuviste cuando Jesús se resucitó de la muerte?
• Sí, pues Jesús sigue llamando nueva vida donde se encuentre la muerte en el mundo de hoy.

• Happy Easter! Felices Pascuas! Maligáyang Pasko Ng Pagkabúhay!
