The Car Wash, The Dark Knight and possibly Griffith
By Peter Marroquin on 24-07-2008 | Youth | Comments Off
Good morning everyone.
It’s been 4 days since the Car Wash and my hands are still peeling from all the suds. I wouldn’t change it though. Jackie estimates that we washed over 40 cars on Sunday. It was a great success.
The people who brought us their cars were very happy. Some told me that you all looked like you were having a lot of fun and that you were doing a great job with the cars. One gentleman said that he didn’t recognize his car when he came back for it after Mass because it was so clean. I feel very proud of everyone who was there and very grateful for all your help
.
Thank you Mark and Annalisa who setup the car wash area in the morning; Enrique for helping me move the cars, washing and drying; Jackie for coordinating efforts on the spot as needed
and scrubbing, rinsing, drying; and Deny, Bryan, Stephanie, Tasha, JJ, Gloria, Jorge, Jesus, Julio, Walter, Estefania, Maria, Sergio, Christian, Marco and Geo for bringing their “unstoppable force” to our fundraiser. I hope I didn’t forget anyone.
So who wants to do it again?
“The Dark Knight” was great on Saturday. If anyone has any suggestions on the next movie we can all go see together, please let me know.
By the way, you are all invited to come to Griffith Park this Sunday to participate in the last session of the 1st Year Confirmation class. Our Ministry has been asked to host fun games for everyone. We’re still coming up with ideas for games so let me know if you want to join in. I will keep you informed of this so check back for more info.
Thank you all again!

“Imagining Christ”, Sunday’s Car Wash and the “Dark Knight”
By Peter Marroquin on 17-07-2008 | Youth | Comments Off
Hey everyone, can you believe it’s almost been a week since we went to the Getty? Summer is rushing by.
It was great to go with you all to see the “Imagining Christ” exhibit. The Getty is a big place and I promise we will go back and see more of it another day. For those who were there, you’ll be able to visit the unique friend you picked in the garden and see how they have changed. If you weren’t there, I’ll tell you what it’s all about when we go
.
The exhibit was amazing. We had a chance to see prayer books decorated with illuminated illustrations. Ask me and I’ll show you photos I took. Still, the photos just cannot capture the light the same as being there. The illustrations included images of Jesus ascending into heaven, the Cross, the Virgin Mary, Saints… the pages shone and some glittered with light. The colors were amazing. To think they were made hundreds of years ago. Wow. I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did.
And now we have our Car Wash coming up. Come by Saturday morning at 10am to help us make posters. We’re going to see “The Dark Knight” at Universal Studios afterwards. If you want to go see the movie, e-mail me right away so I can reserve a ticket for you and you can pay when you get there. The show is selling out fast so hurry! E-mail me at angelflight5@yahoo.com.
The Car Wash will be this Sunday, 8am-2pm. We need tons of volunteers so please come by and help us out
.
Thanks everyone for sharing in our events and activities. If you want to join… Welcome! It’s free! You will find the application on the right side of this page (You may have to scroll the page up).
If you want to volunteer your time as part of our core team please e-mail me and I’ll give you more information.
God bless our Youth Ministry!!!!!!!!

Field trip: The Getty and last week’s Food Sale
By Peter Marroquin on 07-07-2008 | Youth | Comments Off
Hello there members and visitors! I hope you had a great 4th of July. My family and I went up to Griffith Observatory and watched the fireworks from there. We could see the firework shows at the Hollywood Bowl, Culver City, and the Coliseum. I am thinking of a 4th of July family field trip for the Youth Ministry next year. We can all go as a group and have a picnic by the light of our flashlights
Thank you for your amazing support last weekend on Saturday and Sunday when we prepared and carried out our food sale. I am very grateful to everyone who helped by coming down to make posters, donating food and drinks, serving food, driving to get materials, and bringing their good vibes to volunteer and hang out. We were able to raise over $300 in funds for our upcoming activities. Way to go!!!
I’d also like to thank my godfather Mark Willoughby and my comadre Elvia Ramirez for bringing the Youth Ministry bags full of recyclables every week. Their effort and commitment to helping the Youth Ministry is inspiring. If you would like to donate your recyclables, please bring them to us on Sundays between 10am-2pm by the lunch benches where the volunteers and I will be waiting for your contribution. Thanks!!
Next week we’re going to the Getty Center :). The Getty is a really cool museum off the 405 freeway, and it is also a very nice place to hang out and have a picnic. You don’t want to miss out on this field trip. If you are between the ages of 12-17 you are invited to join us. Please let me know if you are coming by e-mailing me at angelflight5@yahoo.com so I can make sure that we have enough cars to take everyone there. THIS EVENT IS FREE. Just bring enough to buy lunch there. We will meet in the Blessed Sacrament parking lot at 9am on Saturday July 12, 2008 and we will be back by 3pm (the latest). Please arrive on time
If you haven’t filled out our Youth Ministry Membership Form you can download it from this page. JOINING IS FREE. Please make sure that you fill it out and have your parents sign it. I need this form so you can come on the trip to the Getty. NO SIGNED FORM, NO TRIP… sorry
Please check back often for more news. Saturday, July 19th we will be going to see the new Batman movie, and on Sunday, July 20th we are having our Car Wash.
Have a great week everyone! See you Saturday!
