Procedures: Book of Gospel

We go up to the altar, veer to the right (facing the altar), go around the back and place the new Gospel book on the center of the table while facing the congregation (again if you’re facing the altar).Then join the priest, acolytes and other lectors to take the bow all at the same time.

After that you proceed to go where the lectors usually go to the side. The lectors will be responsible for taking the lectionary to the lectern before the mass to make sure that it is there.

After the Second Reading place the lectionary on the small square table. Please do not “stack” the lectionary on top of the binder or vice versa. That little table has a self. Place the binder in that shelf and the lectionary on top of the small table. The bigger table that is there beside the lectern is provided for the Gospel Book.

Again, you will not need to go and pick up the gospel book from the altar, that will be the job of the presider or the deacon.
