The Ignatian Volunteer Corps San Diego will hold a Recognition Reception honoring Fr. Gilbert Gentile, SJ, recipient of the 2007 Della Strada Award on Sunday, January 28, 2007, 3:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m., at the University of San Diego, Degheri Alumni Center.

Fr. Gil has has been on staff at St. Vincent de Paul Village in San Diego since 1988 as a Bilingual Therapist and Intern Supervisor, and has served IVC San Diego as the Spiritual Advisor and Advisory Council member since its establishment in 2000.

The Della Strada Award is named after Sancta Maria della Strada, the first church used by Ignatius and the early Jesuits used to serve the urban poor in the center of Rome. The award honors an individual whose life reflects the Ignatian values of service to the poor, and of working and educating for a more just society.
