There are three certificate programs in spiritual direction in Southern California that are now accepting applications for enrollment. I am using this blog to post information about these programs in case either you or anyone you know is discerning a call to ministry as a spiritual director.

CENTER FOR SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT/LMU CERTIFICATE IN THE ART OF SPIRITUAL DIRECTION, ORANGE

The three-year Certificate in the Art of Spiritual Direction Program conducted by the Center for Spiritual Development, a ministry of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange, is co-sponsored by the Center for Religion and Spirituality at Loyola Marymount University. The Center for Spiritual Development hosts this program, providing the lecturers and presenters, and all classes are in Orange, CA. All participants also earn Continuing Education Credit through LMU Extension. Everyone who successfully completes the three-year program will earn a Certificate issued jointly by the Center for Spiritual Development and Loyola Marymount University.

A new group will begin September 8, 2007. Applications due July 31, 2007. Tuition: $1,000 per year. This program meets on the second Saturday of each month for ten months each year.

SPIRITUALITY CENTER INSTITUTE IN RETREAT/SPIRITUAL DIRECTION, LOS ANGELES

The Institute in Retreat/Spiritual Direction is now accepting applications for its 23rd year, which beings in September 2007. The Institute is a program sponsored by the Spirituality Center, and is open to those who would like to explore the concept of spiritual direction or who would like formal preparation leading to the ministry of direction.

USD CENTER FOR CHRISTIAN SPIRITUALITY, SAN DIEGO

The next two year/ four course Spiritual Direction Certificate Program begins next Fall 2007. The first two courses, “Introduction to Spiritual Direction” and “Traditions of Spiritual Direction” are open to all.

All courses are taught on the University of San Diego campus. $825.00 per course.
